Caballadas

Patagonia Lake District, Argentina

Overview

Patagonia’s best kept secret, this beautiful wooden lodge sits on the north edge of Lanín National Park on the Chilean border. It is the ultimate retreat for authenticity and seclusion. Family owned and run since 1908, the landscapes encasing the Estancia are breath-taking and unique. Horses roam free across the ranch and, with over fourteen kilometres of crystal river waters, it is effortlessly tranquil.

Key Features

  • ‘La Casa Grande’ includes eight bedrooms and five bathrooms
  • Accommodates up to twelve guests
  • Host and personal chef
  • World class fly-fishing
  • Horse riding
  • Fully catered expeditions

The main lodge, or “La Casa Grande” as it is known at Caballadas, is set on the top of the hill with sweeping views over the valley. Made from native wood and stone, its blends beautifully into the natural landscape and is able to house up to 12 people. With a personal chef on hand to make sure the unique experience continues at the table, you will be treated to exquisite traditional Argentinian dishes, such as the famous asados (barbecues) and picnic lunches to take with you on your daily adventures. Meals are carefully paired equally outstanding Argentinian wines to entice your palate. The lodge is also home to multiple eco-regions including arid plains, forest and alpine highlands. You’ll want to explore across the pampas whether it be by a guided horse-ride or a trip to the best fly-fishing spot on the pristine creek flowing through the ranch.

Sustainability

Caballados employ sustainable practices in their daily operations, recycling in the offices and leaving only footprints on the expeditions. They also partner with La Liga and The Parochial Agrotechnical School of the Sacred Family, which are both local organisations directing giving back to the local communities surrounding the estate.

Why we love it

The hosts Agustina, Santiago and Isabel immediately make you feel part of the family. They’ve grown up on the Estancia and are experts in the area. Tradition is vital to this experience and this is evident in every detail, from the clothing to the horses, creating an original Argentinian paradise.
