Discovery Bedu Camp

Wadi Rum, Jordan

Overview

If you’re searching for adventure but don’t want to compromise on comfort or luxury, Discovery Bedu will give you an unforgettable experience. Blending seamlessly into the natural surroundings, this camp offers true authenticity in the heart of the desert.

Key Features

  • The camp offers just six luxury tented suites and two spacious loft tents, each with a private deck and ensuite
  • With little to no light pollution, Wadi Rum's ink-black night skies are ideal for stargazing
  • Dine alfresco beneath a canopy of stars on authentic Arabic cuisine
  • Activities include desert balloon rides, microlight flights, footprint walks, camel rides and sandboarding

Design

With just six ensuite tents and two loft tents, they offer a peaceful refuge away from the harsh desert sun. Each accommodation features an ensuite bathroom as well as a private terrace deliberately positioned to maximise views of the sun setting against the sand before the stars come out.

As well as the individual tents, there is also the main Bedouin tent which serves as a lounge and dining area. Dinner is traditional Bedouin cuisine (think dishes infused with aromatic herbs and spices that stimulate your senses) which can either be served here or alfresco under the canopy of stars. Wake up and enjoy breakfast on a sandstone mound overlooking the breathtaking landscape.

Surroundings

Set in the majestic landscapes of Wadi Rum and overlooking the limitless horizons of the desert, Discovery Bedu is a luxury eco-camp run by local Bedouins. The first of its kind in the area, its green-building philosophy allows it to operate in ultimate seclusion without impacting its stunning surroundings.

Situated at a particularly scenic viewpoint, the camp is shrouded by sunburnt sands and topped by towering sandstone peaks, making it the flagship for luxury camps in Jordan.

Sustainability

The main island resort follows a minimal impact approach, using locally sourced materials like bamboo for construction and recycled copper for fixtures. Specialist divers built the jetty to protect the reef, while rainwater is collected, and wastewater treated. Solid waste is recycled, and reforestation efforts are ongoing. Conservation includes protecting nesting turtles and educating guests. Future plans involve solar panels for electricity. The Bawah Anambas Foundation, founded in 2018, works alongside the Reserve to conserve biodiversity.

Why we love it

Thanks to its secluded location, Discovery Bedu Camp is ideal for those looking to get out and explore. By day, head out on a desert walk or camel ride to discover this vast, arid environment. Take the adrenaline up a notch with 4x4s or sandboarding. Or head to the skies to see more of the incredible scenery during a hot air balloon or microlight flight.
