The Golden Triangle

Your journey begins in northern Thailand, a hilly, forested area that borders with Laos and Burma to form the Golden Triangle. This unique area boasts utmost serenity, enchanting landscapes and intriguing culture in all of southeast Asia. Travel to the tranquil riverside town of Chiang Saen, the site of a former Thai kingdom. Explore the remnants and ruins of the once-mighty kingdom and visit the oldest and largest Buddha statue in Thailand. Venture to the less discovered town of Chiang Rai which is brimming with a diversity of cultural attractions, temples and traditional architecture. Soak up the relaxed atmosphere and visit a coffee plantation to better understand the region’s fantastic coffee culture where cafes are extraordinary in appearance serving delectable food and refreshments.

Phuket

Travel south to Phuket from where your coastal adventure will begin. Located desirably in the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea, this city is Thailand’s exciting culture capital. PELORUS have arranged an exclusive visit to a nearby elephant sanctuary where you will have the entire sanctuary to yourself. For a truly intimate and once-in-a-lifetime experience, spend some quiet, serene hours with elephants that are being rehabilitated after decades of abuse. Feed the gentle giants, observe them bathing freely and explore the area with them in this special wildlife encounter. In the evening, receive a high-end Thai cooking class led by a Michelin Star chef where you will create an unbelievable meal together to indulge in.

The Surin Islands

Further north into the famous stretch of Andaman Sea lie the Surin Islands; undoubtedly some of the most stunning in Thailand. With a local anthropologist, spend quality time with the Moken tribe – ancient sea-faring people who have roamed this sea for thousands of years. Once collected by ‘long tail’ boats, visit their village and gain an intriguing insight into the intricate relationship between tribespeople and their surroundings and learn about their beach homes built on stilts. Enjoy a delicious picnic lunch accompanied by tribal music with songs telling stories of their history. Embark on a snorkel tour with a Moken guide to see the underwater life of the gypsies and gain incredible knowledge of the reefs and how they adapted to living in the water. Spot sea turtles, sharks and manta rays before learning the exceptional art of spear fishing and free diving. In this truly immersive experience, hike deep into the verdant forest and learn the uses of plants and trees that support the livelihoods of these fascinating people.

Namtok Ngao National Park

Take a helicopter to the mainland for an exploration into Namtok Ngao National Park. Be met by a local wildlife expert who will take you hiking through the jungle to spot wild elephants, tapirs, leopards and monkeys. Discover the beautiful waterfall before bathing in delightfully secluded hot springs.

Phang Nga Bay

Boasting over 100 islands, Phang Nga Bay is an exquisite area of limestone stacks rising out of crystal waters and blessed with unrivalled vistas. Take a short heli trip to the traditional Thai retreat where you will uncover the art of Thai boxing with a famous boxing champion. Delight in a delicious Thai lunch on the attractive sanctuary grounds before witnessing an exclusive boxing match between two professional boxers with a Thai folk band to accompany. Visit the idyllic village of Panyee which is built above the water on stilts. Immerse yourself in the labyrinth of vibrant visuals, exciting smells, market vendors and ladies cooking, before exploring the surrounding waterfalls, rivers and hot springs. Enjoy time spent swimming, paddling and kayaking in islands and caves which open out to reveal open-air lagoons with sheer limestone walls.

Si Kao

Journey south to Si Kao where you will board a long tail boat and go in search of endangered dugong populations which feed on the surrounding seagrass beds. Pelorus have arranged for sustainability manager Mark Isenstadt to personally host you throughout this conservation experience. Gain an endearing insight into the dugongs’ habitat, behaviour and actions required to prevent ever-decreasing numbers. Visit the local community which has been a crucial part of the dugong education and conservation programme, before enjoying a lovely refreshment and spectacular views at the limestone summit of Point Dugongs.
