We’ve put our heads together and come up with 12 travel experiences from around the world for the 12 months of 2019. From off-piste skiing in the Italian Dolomites to scuba-diving in Belize with whale sharks…
January: Take part in India’s Kumbh Mela Festival
Head to Allahabad in India to experience the grandeur of the Kumbh Mela, a religious festival that occurs every five years, when 50 – 70 million pilgrims gather to display their devotion and take a holy dip in the freezing waters. Accompanied by the finest local guides, you will immerse yourself in the ethereal and hypnotic ambience of the world’s largest gathering of sadhus, seers, fortune tellers and seekers of salvation. Take part in pujas (special offerings) amongst the chiming bells, incense, mantras and drum-beats, before returning to the peace of the luxury camp.
February: Off-piste skiing in the Italian Dolomites
The Italian Dolomites are one of the most instantly-distinguishable ranges. The mountains within this UNESCO World Heritage Site are steep and domineering, a stark contrast to the neighbouring French Alps, and have long attracted mountaineers and hikers from around the globe. In the winter, when thick powder covers the landscape, the Dolomites become an amazing off-piste skiing destination.
March: The ultimate desert adventure in Oman
Explore Oman’s stunning Dhofar coastline, swim with dolphins and green turtles; soar high over the red desert in paramotors; thrash the sand dunes in high-speed buggies; and sleep in lavish tents far from civilisation deep within the Empty Quarter. You will travel through the breathtaking scenery of the Hajar mountains and spend time with local Bedouin tribesmen. You will hike and canyon through remote wadis, abseil into the Seventh Hole, and soak up the vibrancy and colour of the bustling souks and historic cities.
April: A diver’s paradise in Belize
Belize is small but incredibly diverse, with dense jungle to the west and Caribbean seas to the east. For avid divers, it doesn’t get better than Belize; with more than 400 islands, the longest unbroken barrier reef in the western hemisphere and 185 miles of coastline, it is a diver’s paradise. After landing in Belize city, you will be transferred via boat to one of the many islands that hug its coastline, and on your first night you’ll get the opportunity to go night-diving.
May: Skiing surrounded by volcanoes in Kamchatka
The Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East is the most dramatic skiing destination on Earth. There’s no escaping the fact that, given how incredibly remote it is, it requires a full-day of travel to get here. But believe us when we say it is worth it. What awaits you is heli-skiing that few people have ever experienced, with untouched slopes descending fuming volcanoes and awe-inspiring scenery.
June: Extraordinary safari in Botswana
Botswana is an oasis for wildlife. And the jewel in the country’s crown is undoubtedly the Okavango Delta – there is nowhere else on Earth like it. When you arrive in Maun, you’ll be met by a guide who will drive you to a nearby lodge to prepare for your early departure into the Delta the next morning. PELORUS has a close relationship with arguably the most reputable boat safari guide within the Okavango; under his guidance you’ll experience incredibly close encounters with a huge variety of game.
