Chisa Busanga Camp

Kafue National Park, Zambia

Overview

Secreted away in the northern part of the Kafue National Park, Chisa Busanga Camp is in one of Africa’s most untouched wilderness areas.

Key Features

  • There are just four guest rooms designed like a bird’s nest and complete with a private observation deck
  • The central boma features a plunge pool
  • Sustainable safaris using solar-powered land cruisers and mountain bikes as well as hot air balloons
  • It overlooks flood plains teeming with wildlife

Located on an island in the heart of the Busanga Plains, Chisa Busanga Camp overlooks vast flood plains and dambos that teem with wildlife. Thanks to its remoteness, you’ll watch some incredible sunrises over the floodplain and be able to track Zambia’s largest cheetah population.

Chisa is the Nyanja word for ‘birds nest’, and it’s easy to see why it’s named that way. The room have been inspired by the weaver bird nests that can be found in the trees here, and Busanga Plains’s natural and culture heritage is celebrated at the camp in every way.

Offering a truly special safari experience, this unique, exclusive camp will give you everything you could want from a safari adventure with the added bonus of being off the beaten track.

With just four Nests, each blending seamlessly into the wild outdoors, you’ll be in complete comfort as you enjoy incredible views over the plains from both the inside and your private observation deck.

Cool off from the heat of the African sun in the pool and catch a glimpse of a passing elephant or puku. Or, spend an evening at the fireside boma swapping stories from the day with other guests and guides.

Sustainability

Safari vehicles are solar-powered, from their Land Cruisers to their mountain bikes and the camp is also solar-powered.

Why we love it

The park is the perfect place for animal sightings. The sustainable safaris use solar-powered Land Cruisers and mountain bikes, so keep an eye out for tree-climbing lions and red lechwes on your drives. Thanks to the plentiful buffalo and wildebeest you can expect some of the best predator action (think cheetah, wild dog, lion and leopard) in Africa. For something more unique, the park boasts a number of endemic species (over 450!) such as Chaplin’s barbet.
