cottars camp kenya

Located on the Olderkesi Conservancy, bordering the legendary Maasai Mara National Reserve, this award-winning camp harks back to safaris from a bygone era. Owned and managed by the oldest established and continuing safari family in Africa, they have managed to retain this authentic safari essence, captivating guests from the moment of arrival.

COTTAR’S 1920s CAMP

There are 11 spacious tents here, all sumptuously furnished with campaign antiques, four-poster beds, ensuite bathrooms and outdoor verandas (enjoy a traditional canvas safari bath outside with views over the plains). Whilst feeling decidedly 1920s in style (and name), there are still all the amenities today’s modern travellers would expect.

The camp has two main mess tents for dining, drinking, and relaxing. There’s also a pool and spa area to unwind after a game drive or cool off from the heat of the African sun.

COTTAR’S BUSH VILLA

Also on site is Cottar’s Bush Villa, sleeping up to 12 guests across five ensuite bedrooms that are tastefully decorated with rich wood and furnishings that provide a sense of place. Offering an abundance of space, a private swimming pool, and wildlife in spades, there is a dedicated team of staff here, as well as a private game drive vehicle and guide to help you explore your surroundings. This is truly the most exclusive and luxurious villa in the heart of Kenya’s wilderness.

Dining at Cottar’s is rooted in their history and heritage, with every dish showcasing Kenya’s rich and flavourful culinary diversity (but with a modern twist). Despite being in the middle of the secluded Mara, the chefs manage to create incredibly refined menus that take guests’ tastebuds on a tantalising journey.

Unlike some other safaris, dining is not confined to set mealtimes, so you can embark on a long morning game drive without worrying about rushing back for lunch (just take your picnic with you for a bush dining experience). From candlelit dinners by the pool, forage to fork dining experiences, and private dining on your veranda overlooking the plains, dining at Cottar’s is completely tailored to you.
