Echo Camp

Antarctica

Overview

Blending an ultra-luxury experience with a once in a lifetime adventure, Echo Camp draws inspiration from the seminal age of Space exploration to provide exclusive access to the rarely seen interior of the Continent.

Key Features

  • Fly by private jet from South Africa to Antarctica where guests are greeted in a private lounge with a martini, shaken with 10,000-year-old ice
  • A plethora of activities: fat biking, skiing, skidding, 4×4 Arctic Truck driving, ice-climbing and mountaineering

Design

Sitting in quiet solitude and framed by pitted rock formations, Echo Camp fuses space and exploration for an other-worldly experience. Designed for seasoned travellers who are looking for something different, this is as close as it comes to visiting another planet without leaving earth (the camp’s closest neighbour is the International Space Station orbiting overhead).

'Sky Pods'

Featuring just six heated ‘sky pods’ crafted from composite fibreglass, each pod is designed for two guests and is furnished with retro space-age details and luxurious furnishings, as well as original photos taken from the International Space Station.

Perfect for exclusive use groups and catering for up to 12 people, the camp also offers a central lounge area and dining room. During their stay, an experienced team of chefs, hosts and expert guides are on hand to allow guests to make the most of their time in this remote locale.

Sustainability

White Desert has been a certified carbon-neutral company since 2007, and they use carbon offset schemes to mitigate emissions generated through flights and activities of guests. As with all their camps, White Desert has designed Echo to be dismantled without a trace, leaving no more than a momentary impact on the area

Why we love it

Echo Camp allows guests to combine an ultra-luxury experience with a once in a lifetime adventure. There’s a whole host of incredible activities on offer, but the most exciting is the visit to Atka Bay where guests can see the world’s largest penguin species, the Emperor penguin colony, up close.
