Finca Cortesin

Malaga, Spain

Overview

Set around tranquil, traditional Andalusian courtyards, a thoughtful design nod to the peninsula’s history, Finca Cortesin is a glamorous and comfortable retreat offering seclusion, relaxation and one of Spain’s best golf courses.

Key Features

  • Facilities include a luxurious spa, 3 pools, tennis and paddle courts, a beach club, and one of Spain's top golf courses
  • 67 spacious guestrooms and suites, alongside 4 four-bedroom villas
  • 6 dining options: REI offering Japanese and Mediterranean fusion, Don Giovanni Italian restaurant, Mediterranean cuisine at The Beach Club and El Jardin de Lutz, tapas and cocktails at The Blue Bar, and views of the golf course and the Mediterranean at the Golf Club Restaurant

Surroundings

Situated in the heart of the Costa del Sol, between Marbella and Sotogrande, Finca Cortesin overlooks the beautiful Mediterranean coast. Close to the picturesque village of Casares as well as the beach, the resort is set on a peaceful 215-hectare estate comprised of a hotel, golf course, spa and sports club, beach club, and a residential area.

Design

Though built in 2009, the design is inspired by traditional Andalusian architecture resulting in an authentic charm thanks to its whitewashed exterior and elegantly styled interiors. Built around two central courtyards, the hotel has 67 spacious and bright guestrooms and suites with lofty high ceilings. Neutral tones are offset by signature colour feature walls, and most rooms boast terraces or balconies with views of the golf course, mountains, pool, or sea. Opt for one of their larger suites to enjoy a private pool, or one of their private villas for a lavish option ideal for groups or families with four ensuite bedrooms and a pool.

Dining

With a total of six restaurants, you’re in no danger of going hungry. The signature restaurant, REI, serves traditional Japanese dishes as well as others that fuse Japanese with Mediterranean influences. Elsewhere, Don Giovanni offers Italian cuisine, El Jadin de Lutz serves Spanish cooking where fish is the star of the show, tapas and cocktails at The Blue Bar, and Mediterranean fare on a whitewashed wooden deck at The Beach Club. Wherever you choose, expect your meal to be accompanied by superb Spanish wine.

Amenities

There are three swimming pools – one indoor in the spa, two outdoor – at the hotel. The hotel also has its own Beach Club with an infinity pool, a beachside restaurant and plenty of sun loungers. In the spa, expect specialist ayurvedic treatments alongside Asian therapies (think oxygenating facials and classic Thai massages). There’s also an ice room, a steam room and sauna, alongside a small gym and salon.

Sustainability

Finca Cortesin has reduced its use of disposable goods by 90 per cent. The pool is cleaned with sea salt and water is heated by solar panels. There’s also an onsite vegetable garden and the hotel donates food to the local town council, which in turn distributes it to people in need within the community. The resort also has an ambitious green renovation project in the works for its golf course, which is irrigated with greywater and zigzagged by a fleet of electric buggies.

WHY WE LOVE IT

Finca Cortesin is home to one of Spain’s finest golf courses, and there’s no better place to perfect your swing than under the sun. A demanding par 72 with more than 100 bunkers, the course has hosted numerous professional golf tournaments and also boasts an impressive driving range, featuring dominating mountain views to the left and calming sea views to the right.
