Marvel at an interior brimming with beautiful old-fashioned furniture, wooden features and luxurious details. Spread between five categories, each room has been individually designed and named after noteworthy artists, writers, royals and mountaineers who have once stayed. Lovely antiques and grand features have created rooms fit for royalty with comfortable beds and deluxe bathrooms from where the finest views of surrounding mountains, fjords and gardens can be relished. For ultimate privacy, choose to stay in Torestova, the hotel’s guesthouse containing three bedrooms, dining room, kitchen and living room. Soak up the delightful traditional dining room and enjoy a gourmet menu using seasonal ingredients sourced locally. Cascading waterfalls and picture-perfect vistas wonderfully complement the culinary experience at Hotel Union Øye.
Hotel Union Øye is based in a remote fjord village that is home to only 40 residents and the opening of the hotel saved the small village which was becoming increasingly deserted by generating over 150 jobs
In response to the Norwegian government’s pledge that by 2026 all transport on fjords should be zero emissions, the hotel group and local companies devised a plan to create a hydrogen hub that will produce green hydrogen to run boats and any trucks, busses, and larger vessels
Why we love it
The hotel’s location provides a gateway to unbelievable Norwegian scenery including an absolute must-see, the 20km long Geiranger Fjord. With abandoned farms peppering the towering mountain ledges, this UNESCO World Heritage Site offers intriguing cultural history and mesmerising sights to remember.
