Hotel Union Øye

First opened in 1891, this traditional manor house is lavishly furnished and encircled by mountains and waterfalls nearly as majestic as the hotel itself.

Only about 11 miles from the Geiranger Fjord, the Union Øye acts as a sumptuous base from which to access the UNESCO-listed natural and cultural treasures of arguably Norway’s most beautiful fjord. Return from visiting the fjord to the elegant dining room to swap stories of the day’s adventures while savouring the locally-sourced gourmet cuisine.

Sustainability

Hotel Union Øye is based in a remote fjord village that is home to only 40 residents and the opening of the hotel saved the small village, which was becoming increasingly deserted, by generating over 150 jobs. In addition, the hotel makes contributions to the local community, supporting organisations and events in the surrounding area.

In response to the Norwegian government’s pledge that by 2026 all transport on fjords should be zero-emission, the hotel group and local companies devised a plan to create a hydrogen hub that will produce green hydrogen to run boats and any trucks, buses, and larger vessels. As well as this, all produce is sourced from certified sustainable suppliers and locally, avoiding large transportation and deliveries.
