The dome shaped lodges are situated on a wooden deck in the heart of the Uyuni Salt Flats. Designed to convey a bohemian chic atmosphere and using sustainable materials and objects where possible the domes are elegant and cosy. The wood fired stoves keep things warm and each has a hot shower. The main lounging dome is filled with huge straw hanging-lamps, large sofas and reclaimed wooden furniture giving a chalet type feel. With art from Gastón Ugalde an award-winning Bolivian artist adding vibrancy and altiplano spirit. Unique food is prepared daily by an acclaimed Bolivian chef, served in unique ceramic dishes that craft a gastronomic journey through Bolivia’s rich biodiversity; the experience is made complete with local wines and an herbal tea station.
Domes infrastructure was created to minimise the impact on the delicate environment, by placing the domes on decking hoisted by stilts, no drilling or anchoring that took place into the salt crust
Lodge developed to operate on solar energy with the added addition of a wind turbine
Each room has an incineration toilet which immediately burns all organic matter, so there is no black water to discharge or treat
Supplies are predominantly in recyclable packaging to further minimise waste
Kachi Lodge has a 0% plastic policy
Pellets used to run the stoves are made from leftover wood
Sustain and nurture a relationship with the local Jirira community, providing employment opportunities, and educating visitors on their culture
Why we love it
After a day experiencing all the salt flats can offer, luxuriate outside on the deck, check out the telescope and stargaze. The star-studded sky is expansive and in rainy season is reflected onto the surface of the plains, making you feel as if you are walking in the midst of the universe.
