Fortress sunset Lopud 1483

Once a working monastery that housed 13 monk cells within its walls, LOPUD 1483 has been gracefully converted into a luxurious private home for up to ten guests, available only for exclusive hire. Five elegant suites overlook the Adriatic sea or the Medicinal garden, each boasting their own character, yet consistent in design and ambience, with an impressive contemporary art collection and exquisite Renaissance furniture.

LOPUD 1483 and its full range of staff – which includes hosts, experience leaders, and a private chef – ensure that wellness is at the heart of your time at this beautiful property. As well as relaxing in the outdoor spaces and roaming the gardens, spend time in the hammam, treatment rooms or workout space – so even your exercise can be complimented by spectacular surroundings within the ancient fortress.

The sacred garden at the heart of LOPUD 1483 is based around art, architecture, spirituality, and healing, and pays homage to deep, historical roots and the traditions of St Francis of Assisi. Soak up the Croatian sunshine as you dine alfresco on the sun deck or sit back with a drink on the sunset terrace set on the fortress walls. Menus are designed around you and your preferences, all created by your private chef using local produce, many of which is grown in the Renaissance garden and expertly matched with local and international wines paired by the Sommelier.

LOPUD 1483 provides the perfect base from which to explore Croatia’s stunning surroundings, from visiting the fortress and botanical gardens by boat on the nearby Lokrum Island to sampling local cuisine in an exclusive discovery of Dubrovnik’s Old Town. Discover the art of Dalmatian cuisine with a private cooking lesson, visit the region’s oyster farms or vineyards, quaint villages and orchards by horseback or mountain bike.

One of our Travel Designers, Bella, had the opportunity to stay at LOPUD 1483.

Speeding around the northern tip of the island, the Franciscan monastery creeps into view, standing proud on its rocky private peninsula. With a striking façade and a tranquil air, I immediately felt captivated by this impressive building.

Most notably of all is the utmost peace and tranquillity which radiates through Lopud’s landscape – a silence which is only interrupted by monastery bells and the occasional engine of a boat rumble through the sea.

With private access to the sea, the surrounding waters feel as though they are only yours, making for a particularly serene experience.
