Virunga National Park, Democratic Republic of Congo
On the banks of the river Ishasha in Virunga National Park lies these serene tented camps. Ideally spaced to allow for privacy, they are an immersive way to experience the treasures of the park whist sleeping under the stars. Within Ishasha sector in the eastern region of the park, they are placed on abundant Savannah plains, providing ample opportunities to spot playful hippos swimming in the water.
Eight tents with solar shower
Shared mess tent
Separate communal lounging tent
Private flushing toilets
Situated in a secluded haven of the park, these tented camps provide excellent access to unexplored areas in the beautifully isolated southern section of Virunga. The facilities are simple yet comfortable with double beds and private wash and toilet facilities. There is space to lounge in your tent as well as, a private veranda to spot the grazing mammals including elephants, warthogs, buffalos, topis and various exotic bird species.
Meals take place either alfresco on your excursions or in the mess tent, which has a well-stocked bar and restaurant serving authentic African fare. For more lounging space there is an additional communal tent, wonderfully relaxing and a great space to chat to fellow travellers or unwind with a book. Activities include walks to Lake Edward, game drives and community visits to see the diverse lifestyles of the park’s communities.
The camp’s energy is sourced from solar panels
Water management systems in place to minimise impact on delicate environment
Work to educate guests and ensure the biodiversity of the park is protected and sustained
Why we love it
A great option if you want to completely engage in the safari environment without scrimping on comfort. Far away from the crowds the endless views of the astounding mammals in their natural habitat is an unforgettable experience.
