Location

After navigating a bumpy road past rushing rivers and native bush, feast your eyes on the magnificent property that is Mahu Whenua Homestead. With Lake Wanaka’s glistening waters in one direction and luscious sloping grassland to the other, this is undeniably one of New Zealand’s most striking locations. The property comprises 55,000 hectares of unspoiled landscape stretching 30 miles towards Queenstown and home to four high country sheep stations.

What makes this property unique?

With endless areas to hide away, the Homestead welcomes you to relax, unwind and recharge in the country’s cleanest alpine air. Delight in native delicacies carefully created by the talented chefs using the freshest of produce, some of which is grown on Mahu Whenua land. Tailored to meet specific dietary requirements, the menu is wonderfully innovative and accompanied by delicious Central Otago wines. The three homestead suites welcome mountain and lake views, whilst the adjacent cottage suites are engulfed in beech forest with lovely views of Motatapu valley.

Design

For complete privacy, the entire Homestead is available for exclusive use sleeping up to 12 guests. Each suite boasts comfortable king-size beds, private bathrooms, and tasteful décor to complement their surroundings. Choose the Tui Master Suite for the luxury of a grand copper bathtub and a glass-walled shower, each with hypnotic views. Every suite enables access to the fabulous Homestead facilities and spacious rooms where two large fireplaces warm the building. Coupled with high-end indulgence, the interior oozes a rustic, authentic feel through timber beams, exposed brick walls, and floor-to-ceiling windows that pull the outstanding scenery inside. Adding to the charm is local artwork and cosy sheepskin rugs scattered throughout the rooms.

Sustainability

Mahu Whenua conservation initiatives are the largest currently operating on private land in the history of New Zealand. This luxury homestead runs on renewable solar energy and has introduced sustainable farming practices, plant regeneration, and a native bird breeding programme on Mahu Whenua’s land with the aim to regenerate the landscape surrounding the sheep stations.

Why we love it

The Homestead’s private helipad opens the doors to a wealth of unforgettable and exclusive experiences from the air. Amongst endless opportunities, fly around the highest peaks in Mount Aspiring National Park, witness impressive glaciers, verdant rainforests, and the wild west coast before landing in the alpine countryside for a champagne and canapés treat.
