Sossusvlei Desert Lodge
Namib Desert, Namibia
Unearth a private reserve deep within the world’s oldest living desert – the Namib. Nestled in this otherworldly environment amongst sand dunes, rock formations and space-like expanses is the striking and entirely sustainable Sossusvlei Desert Lodge.
Ten stone and glass suites with private plunge pools
Observatory with high-quality telescope
Gym and wellness centre with treatments available
In-house shop selling fine Namibian crafts
Restaurant and bar
This spectacular lodge re-emerged after a refurbishment in 2019 with an entirely environmentally friendly approach. Designed to merge into its surroundings, each suite is set along the curved escarpment, opening onto vast desert views. Each is well-equipped with private verandas, plunge pools and cosy living areas with a fireplace. An added bonus is the moveable skylight above the bed and glass rain shower offering epic 180-degree vistas. For a different option, the two-bedroom Star Dune Suite is ideal for families and groups of friends.
The communal area represents an architectural masterpiece of rock, glass and steel with a central island bar, luxurious sitting room and interactive kitchen. In this wonderfully remote location, reconnect with nature and soak up the unrivalled silence. Beneath an International Dark Sky Reserve, experience superb light clarity and amazing stargazing accompanied by the lodge’s in-house professional astronomer.
Clever roof design offering maximum shade, together with solar panels
Rainwater harvesting tanks
Solar hot water system which operates independently
Outdoor rain showers are supported by the lodge’s sustainable water recycling systems
Pool covers used as evaporation control measures
During construction, little impact on the land was made and a full-recovery programme was enforced following the build
Why we love it
Marvel at the captivating desert expanse from above as you take to the skies in a helicopter or hot air balloon. This is a magnificent way to piece together the striking landscape that surrounds Sossusvlei Desert Lodge.
