Design

Inspired by the traditional Maasai bomas, these unique suites boast spacious, light interiors, with perspex fronts revealing panoramic views of the sweeping Serengeti. King sized beds face out onto expansive wooden decking, while a crackling woodburning stove will keep you warm and cosy throughout the night. The highest property in the area, the camp’s vantage point enables you to watch the sun both rise and set on your action-packed days.

Activities

Adventure is quite literally on your doorstep with an array of game walks and mountain hikes available straight from the camp. Zebras, elephants and leopards roam the volcanic slopes, while prolific birdlife and butterflies fill the air. Early morning drives across the magical plains will show you the animals at their most active, giving you time to relax with a picnic under the shade of a tree, or take an afternoon siesta from the hottest part of the day. Maasai culture surrounds this camp; interact with the local people as they share their knowledge and stories, giving you unique insight into their world-famous culture.

Sustainability

The highlands was built to ensure minimal impact on the local environment and operates using solar power energy, offsetting carbon emissions. The camp also collects and recycles rainwater and grows their own seasonal produce.

Why we love it

Join the knowledgeable NCA rangers in a unique hike to the Empakaai Crater. Stretch your legs though dense mountainous forest and be rewarded with the most splendid views across the vast basin. See the shores of the famous soda lake blushed pink by the presence of thousands of flamingos, and spot elephants and buffalo roaming the land. Due to its exclusive location, the Highlands is the only property which can offer a convenient half-day excursion to observe this unique and fascinating world.
