time tide king lewanika

Time + Tide King Lewanika is arguably Zambia’s most exclusive lodge, situated within one of the earliest protected areas in Africa (it was first preserved in the 1880s by King Lewanika of the Lozi people). Liuwa Plain is defined by its unspoiled landscape and curious wildlife, with Africa’s second biggest wildebeest migration, magnificent wildlife, a growing cheetah population and the famed Lady Liuwa lion pride.

Super luxe in design, the lodge still retains its safari authenticity with canvas walls and decks overlooking the plains. This indoor-outdoor flow completely immerses guests in the landscape: relax on the deck watching birds wade through the lagoon, or fall asleep under the stars to the sound of whooping hyenas.

The main camp houses the lounge, bar and dining area, built in the classic canvas and timber safari style. Outside, the generous raised deck boasts panoramic views of the Liuwa Plains as well as a plunge pool and outdoor fire pit located directly on the plain.

Designers enhanced the resort’s authentic safari vibe through architecture and interiors, with the six tents mirroring the broad lines of the Liuwa landscape. Effortlessly flowing between inside and out, the golden hue of the plains is reflected throughout the design, contrasting against masculine accents of vintage leather and burnished metal.

There are a whole host of activities here including day and night game drives, walking safaris, canoe safaris and sleepouts under the stars – all offering the chance to see some incredible wildlife and birds. Venture across the savannah in search of lions and cheetahs, or take to the seasonal flood plain by canoe and surround yourself with a dazzling abundance of bird species. Or, connect with the locale as you learn about the rich cultural heritage of the Lozi people.
