Design

Comprised of six tented suites, as well as a two-bedroom and a one-bedroom villa, this serene Himalayan retreat promises a stay that will connect you to your surroundings. Drawing inspiration from its location, the lodge marries traditional Bhutanese style with a modern twist. Expect to see the national flower – the blue poppy – woven throughout the interiors while handwoven Bhutanese products add interest. Whether you’re an intrepid outdoor enthusiast or are looking to be pampered, Punakha River Lodge caters to all guests.

The safari-style tented suites are suspended from a traditional Bhutanese timber structure, cleverly positioned to ensure the utmost privacy while boasting an ensuite, an indoor and outdoor shower, a star bath, and a private veranda. For couples, the two-storey River House is set along a peaceful stream and has a spacious lounge and dining area downstairs with a lavish bedroom and open ensuite bathroom upstairs. If that’s not enough, a private plunge pool and outdoor veranda complete the space.

For families, look no further than the Family Suite with its two interconnected ensuite rooms. There’s a spacious lounge area, personalised bar, outdoor veranda and private swimming pool. Balancing the need for seclusion but also close proximity to the lodge’s facilities, it’s ideally positioned with a view of the Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten amidst paddy fields.

Cuisine

Enjoy sundowners and meals in a variety of incredible al fresco locations, from the outdoor lodge deck, amongst the lush paddy fields, overlooking the river, or in the privacy of your suite. The food is all seasonal, taking inspiration from local cuisine. Sourced from the extensive on-site vegetable garden, enjoy outstanding cuisine or a traditional Bhutanese cooking class in the outdoor interactive kitchen.

For some well-deserved pampering, look no further than the tranquil spa positioned in the orange orchid with views of snow-capped peaks. Opt for a signature Bhutanese treatment using 100% natural products, a balancing yoga session, or a not-to-be-missed, hot stone bath. On warm days, take to the swimming pool which boasts river and mountain views.
