Discover Diving and Jungles in Costa Rica

Costa Rica sits at the heart of central America, stretching from the tranquil Caribbean Ocean all the way to the vast Pacific Ocean. The rich natural abundance of flora and fauna boasts stunning scenery of immense volcanoes and mountain peaks, beautiful palm fringed beaches and tropical rainforests bursting with wildlife. Play the part of a castaway on the untouched beaches and explore the extraordinary landscape whilst being surrounded by some of the world’s most extraordinary wildlife.

When to go:
January – April

Begin your journey at the iconic Arenal Volcano, perfectly symmetrical in shape, this dramatic volcano rises out of the San Carlos Plains. Boarding your heli from San Jose, you will soar across dense rainforest that is interspersed by pretty, meandering rivers, before flying over the immense Arenal Volcano. Landing by the volcano, your private guide will take you on an adventure that has you rappelling down waterfalls, hiking through lava fields and soaring across rainforest canopies. To end your day, take a relaxing soak in the exclusive natural hot springs at the base of the majestic volcano.

Leave the outside world behind as you board a private boat which will transport you through atmospheric mangroves. At the other side you will meet your expert guide, a local farmer who will lead you on a hike into the wilderness of Corcovado National Park. Here, 42,000 hectares of Pacific Lowland Rainforest spills onto deserted, pristine beaches where turquoise water laps the shoreline.

Through Pelorus’ extensive network of contacts, you will be granted exclusive rights to move through the tribally-controlled areas of this region. Marvel at the beauty of this spectacular landscape, home to 800 endemic tree species before arriving at a remote village. Slip into local life with a traditional welcome and an intimate encounter with the local people for a humbling insight into their lives.

As the days pass, journey deeper into one of the world’s most biodiverse regions and discover scarlet macaws, tapirs, jaguars and squirrel monkeys alongside the locals that know them best. Each night will be spent with local communities that inhabit the forest and have come to understand its rhythm over generations.

Next you will take to the waters of the Golfo Dulce to explore the coastline on paddle boards and kayaks, searching for spinner dolphins and humpback whales. Discovering the vibrant marine world as your snorkel below the surface, where a whole host of tropical fish reside within vibrant and colourful coral reefs.

For the ultimate experience, Pelorus will take you on a once in a lifetime submersible adventure, taking your up to 450 feet below the surface. Watch as the water rises outside, with a 360-degree views through the orb of the cockpit as you sink into the depth of the ocean. Here you will discover a whole host of pelagic life including hammerhead sharks, manta rays, tuna and schools of snapper. Your submersible dives will contribute vital information and data needed to preserve and protect Costa Rica’s oceans.

For a chance to get further involved in crucial conservation work,  join expert marine biologists in their conservation efforts to track the movements of hammerhead sharks. Out on the water, you will catch your own hammerhead, lifting them out of the water to fit a tagging device, before returning them to continue their journey, which you will then receive updates for the next year.
