Design

Enjoy the privacy of your own, comfortable two storey cottage in this unique settlement enveloped in silence devoid, even of the sound of cars. All the cottages are beautifully designed in a Nordic style and are equipped with private bathrooms, a luxury in the settlement where there is a central water supply system. Each also has solar panels which make enough electricity for the cottages and a surplus which is sold on to the local population. The large windows take up the entire façade towards the sea, creating breath-taking panoramic views from both floors with the chance to see humpback whales and icebergs floating by. All meals will be served in the historic buildings that the Lodge restored in collaboration with Real Dania.

Ilulissat Ice Fjord

Hike to the Ilulissat Ice Fjord to see glaciers or head out on ATVs and speed boats to the edge of the Ice Sheet. Take the chance to soak up the history of Ilimanaq, one of the oldest settlements in Greenland, or head further to the untouched former settlement of Qajaa that used to be inaccessible. On these hikes come into close contact with a variety of wildlife including muskoxen, foxes, snow rabbits, and more. Partake in a local Kaffemik, a social gathering around a cup of coffee, with a local family. In winter, the lodge offers dog sledding trips to nearby settlements and glacial viewpoints. Or simply relax in your bed and take in the glorious seafront and marine animals such as seals and whales dancing under the midnight sun.

Sustainability

The lodge embodies a commitment to sustainability, evident in its incorporation of solar panels on each cottage, supplying both heat and electricity to the settlement. Built with environmental consciousness and local input, it stands as a beacon of progress in a community experiencing depopulation. Not only has it provided vital employment opportunities, but its cabin buildings have also enhanced village infrastructure, addressing maritime conditions and sanitation needs. Additionally, the lodge's restaurant showcases Greenlandic pride by utilising fresh, locally sourced ingredients, further fostering a connection to the land and its people.

Why we love it

There are few places in the world as far removed from day-to-day life as Ilimanaq Lodge. Experience a truly unique and charming escape perched high on a cliff edge overlooking the whale-filled oceans.
