Design

Nestled on the borders of world-renowned Ranthambore National Park, SUJÁN Sher Bagh transports you to the 1920s, evoking the romantic life on safari during the heyday of the British Raj.

There are 10 luxurious tents and two tented suites here. The former consists of a bedroom with an attached veranda and bathroom, while the latter comes complete with a private jacuzzi or a private pool. Inside, earthy tones, canvas, and photos of the jungle’s inhabitants set the scene and create an exciting buzz for the days spent on safari, keeping a careful lookout for the elusive tigers.

Cuisine

Dining at Sher Bagh is an indulgent affair, and, as a member of Relais and Châteaux, the food here is excellent. In the dining tent, guests can expect continental and Indian cuisine cooked over the fire in clay ovens using homegrown ingredients handpicked from the gardens. Tasted something you like? Just ask one of the chefs for the recipe and they’ll be happy to host an informal cooking class to show you how to replicate it at home. Later in the day, kick back as the sun sets with a gin and tonic in hand.

Activities

When you’re not luxuriating in your private tent or out exploring the wilder parts of the park, unwind in the Jungle Spa under the shade of an ancient peepal (sacred fig) tree, cool off in the outdoor pool, or indulge in an Ayurvedic massage in the comfort of your own tent. Come together with other guests in the two tents that make up the common area – at one end the bar, library and cosy nooks, while at the other the dining area can be found.

Sustainability

The Singh family, who own the lodge, have played a significant role in conservation at Ranthambhore for nearly 50 years, funding key anti-poaching and conservation initiatives. They established the SNS Foundation in 1976 to address education, health and hygiene, skill development, and conservation, to create a social impact among rural communities to achieve economic self-reliance and coexist harmoniously with the environment.

They have also adopted 13 schools in Rajasthan to improve education and schooling, as well as to provide education schemes for young girls.

With ruins of palaces, cenotaphs and follies dotted around the jungle, it’s a magical wildlife haven.
