Arijiju is an enchanting private home in the heart of the Borana Conservancy, one of Kenya’s most staggering landscapes with world-class wildlife on your doorstep. Taking its inspiration from Ethiopian monasteries, Arijiju is a calm and contemplative space characterised by vaulted archways, stone passageways and a central courtyard, intricately designed by leading architects and interior designers to blend into the landscapes that surround.

Arijiju places a clear focus on health and wellness, partnered with a pioneering approach to conservation. There are 20 members of staff varying from guides and rangers to butlers and chefs, all on hand to cater to your every need. Guests can spend their downtime relaxing with a treatment in the spa or in the impeccable wellness retreat, sighting native wildlife while taking a dip in the outdoor infinity pool, or perhaps getting active on the tennis court. The kitchen is central to the Arijiju experience, with world-class chefs and a delightful farm-to-fork menu featuring exquisite organic ingredients.

Spot the coveted Big 5 on 4×4 safaris, as well as on horseback, walking, mountain biking and quad biking safaris. Further afield, stride through the canopy of the Ndare Ngare forest on aerial bridges and spend a night camping in its lush interior, or board a helicopter to soar over hidden ecosystems nestled in the craters of a dormant volcano and shimmering mountain lakes pink with flamingo. Glide above hippo and crocodile on the Esawo river towards the mighty Mount Kenya, and venture north to the sprawling deserts untouched by tourism.

Sustainability

Nestled within a 90,000-acre conservation archetype, Arijiju offers more than just a luxurious retreat. With a focus on organic local cuisine and sustainability, guests contribute to local education, community, and wildlife conservation projects supported by Borana Conservancy. This includes vital initiatives such as protecting elephant migration corridors, conducting lion research, and ensuring the safety of resident rhinos. Spearheading anti-poaching efforts, Arijiju introduces educational outreach programs to neighboring villages and employs highly-trained anti-poaching rangers. The retreat itself is a testament to sustainability, with carbon-efficient architecture, solar-powered energy, and water conservation measures such as greywater recycling and eliminating plastic water bottles in favor of a local borehole water supply. Spa treatments utilizing Kenyan honey and coconut milk further enhance the eco-conscious experience.

Why we love it

Arijiju is a unique, architectural haven with first-class facilities and an unrivalled variety of wildlife on your doorstep. Guests can explore their surroundings on a unique ‘running safari’, following clearly mapped trails through Arijiju’s stunning landscapes and sighting the Big 5 as they go.
