Begin your journey in Nicaragua in the fascinating colonial town of León, an animated city with a population that is both intensely political and charmingly friendly. Immerse yourselves in your new surroundings and a novel culture as you discover the revolutionary history, colourful colonial beauty, and alluring street art. Backdropping this cityscape is the beautiful Cerro Negro Volcano which provides an excellent hike, followed by a thrilling descent on sandboards.

Head south passing through luscious forests and immense lakes, before hiking up to the crater of the Masaya Volcano to gaze down into the active volcano, witnessing the lava flowing into the Santiago crater. Continue your journey to the beautiful natural wonder of the Langua de Apoyo, a crystal-clear blue lagoon contained inside the crater of the Apoyo Volcano and surrounded by abundant flora and fauna. On land there are a plethora of challenging hiking trails and the clean, warm waters are most inviting for kayaking, swimming, or even scuba diving.

Lake Nicaragua is a sight not the be missed with this huge expanse of water scatted with over 300 unspoiled volcanic islands along the peninsula, products of a pre-historic eruption of the nearby Mombacho Volcano. Explore the charming islets by boat, taking in the surrounding nature and picturesque landscapes whilst learning about the lifestyle of the island’s inhabitants. Learn to fish using the traditional artisanal method with the local fishermen as you paddle onto the lake in a wooden rowing boat equipped with conventional nets. Ride on horseback through pastureland, traditional cacao, and plantain farms to appreciate the glorious views of the lake.
