2022 kicked off with a feature in the Daily Telegraph by Laura Fowler declaring life as “one big holiday – albeit one bound by a laptop.” “Adventure companies are seeing stays lengthen by around 30 per cent, with more of us than ever taking, say, a month to do what Jimmy Carroll, co-founder of Pelorus, terms “a deep dive” into one country.”

The Pelorus team has certainly seen this in yachting expeditions in 2022, as featured by Olivia Michel in Boat International in April:

“More time on board also means that charter guests can satisfy life-long desires to visit bucket-list destinations or try out adventurous activities such as submarine diving or heli-skiing as part of their itineraries. […] Some of the longer charters Ciappara is currently organising include six weeks on 31-metre classic explorer Togo to focus on wildlife photography in Svalbard, five weeks on board 33.6-metre sailing yacht Imagine in the isolated atolls of French Polynesia, Fiji, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands, and three weeks on an African safari cruise between Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique.”

Our wild Alaska experiences based at the utterly remote and spectacular Sheldon Chalet featured in FT.com in July. We were again included in an online and print feature on FT.com and in HTSI magazine for our specialism “in taking clients – often led by ex-special forces types – to the remotest corners of the globe by superyachts and helicopters.”

Following the launch of our 2023 Bucket List, Pelorus featured in The Australian: “Those looking to up the ante on the thrill of the African bush can now take to the air as part of this Northern Kenya heli-safari from Pelorus expeditions. Trips can be tailored to personal tastes, but will likely include ribal cultures, conservation efforts, aerial and on-ground adventures, and sailing the Kenyan coastline.”

And a similar reference to Pelorus taking clients off the beaten track includes yacht experiences in the San Blas Islands in Panama, as featured by Julia Zaltzman in Robb Report. “The remote San Blas feature some of the world’s richest marine life among 365 mostly uninhabited islands. Thanks to adventure firm Pelorus, all areas are accessible aboard the 165-foot Trending. That means solo-exploring Coiba’s diverse ecosystem, snorkeling the Holandes Cays, kayaking rain forest rivers in Cerro Hoya and hiking Pipeline Road in Gamboa for exceptional bird-watching.”

Kim Kavin’s January 2022 article in Robb Report also highlighted Pelorus’ yachting expertise: we “collaborate with clients to create customised charters down to the smallest detail; eight months of legwork, including communicating with local authorities, applying for permits and inspecting the yachts”.

Global Traveler December 2022

“All Pelorus trips are bespoke, and we can create anything you can dream of. We cater to an audience that has a disposable income and wants to spend it on creating memories with their friends and family,” said Jimmy Carroll, cofounder, Pelorus. “We offer the services of a dedicated project manager on the ground; a host of support vessels, submersibles or helicopters; dive guides; expedition photographers; security; or any specialist equipment to take the experience to the next level. Every detail is tailored to the client’s brief, so we can create any experience from scientific research tagging manta rays in Ecuador, adventure treasure hunts and getting up close to endemic species to heliskiing in the remotest of regions.””

Our co-founder Jimmy was featured in New York Post in November: “you can find him hosting client trips, whether it’s a yacht expedition to Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, exploring and skiing in remote Alaska, or venturing to Lofoten, Norway, where a group went hiking and cycling up mountains to waterfalls and crossed fjords. […] Carroll and his co-founder, Geordie Mackay-Lewis, are ex-captains in the British Army, and their time logged leading reconnaissance units on long-range desert patrols and helicopter operations serves them well as they map out customized trip itineraries.”

NEW YORK POST

“A travel operator founded by a former army captain was never going to offer a standard trip to Greenland. This extravagant holiday in a land that’s emptier and more ruggedly polar than any of the countries of Scandinavia explores its southeast.”

We’re also delighted to be featured in both Forbes and the Daily Telegraph for our experience on swimming with Minke Whales down under from the yacht BELUGA.

Conde Nast Traveller online Antarctica

In November, Pelorus was singled out as the company to go with for travelling to Antarctica in Condé Nast Traveller’s roundup of the best holiday destinations in February: “Adventure company Pelorus has the truly extraordinary 10-night ‘Shackleton’s Antarctica’, following in the footsteps of the polar explorer – climbing, abseiling, hiking, ice-walking and sailing aboard classic 1939 yacht Eros.”

BOAT International Features Sept and Nov 2022 print

We were thrilled to be featured by Georgia Boscawen in Boat International’s September 2022 issue for our epic Alaskan yacht expeditions. “Cruise through the spectacular fjords to the remote towns of Southeast Alaska, where you’ll encounter native Tlingit dance performances, top-secret fishing spots, bald eagles, sea otters, bears and whales. Explore the icy straits over seven days with the help of carefully selected local guides who can show off the best of the region.” We were then featured in the November 2022 issue for the ultimate route around Patagonia aboard SURI.

We’re proud to have planned an extraordinary trip to the Faroe Islands for HTSI editor Jo Ellison and her family in the summer, which was certainly one not to be forgotten. “The Faroe Islands are not a destination for the faint-hearted […] it’s hard not to be gripped by the brutal majesty of it all.”
