‘The New Office’

Introducing our pick of ambition-fuelling hotspots ideal for remote working, which offer opportunities in the form of incredible adventures and enriching experiences away from the office.

Working remotely for a few weeks, or months, of the year is becoming increasingly popular, with the previous two years only proving the fact it can work wonders. Often finding peace and serenity on a secluded beach whilst swinging in a hammock, exploring cultured hotspots, or taking in a breath of fresh ocean air can be the root of all creativity.

Various lockdowns across the globe have triggered a desire for more permanent remote working set-ups, jumping ship to far-flung tropical hideaways with utmost privacy. Swap the boardroom for a paradisal cabana in the jungle. Shake up your coffee breaks in between zoom calls with epic adventures. Replace your commute to client lunch for a helicopter excursion and alfresco dining atop a mountain peak.

‘For those no longer confined to their workplace or home office, a year or two spent working remotely could be the necessary antidote to months spent grounded.’ – Condé Nast Traveller

At Pelorus, we prefer to be working from the more peaceful reclines of a tropical island, soaking up sunnier climes and looking to the ocean through coconut palms, rather than the ‘normal’ office setting one imagines.

This was the idyllic situation Pelorus Founders, Geordie and Jimmy, found themselves in recently; working from the sandy swathes of Santa Teresa, Costa Rica’s surfer-chic community on the Pacific coast, for what became their ‘new office’. Running Pelorus from the luxurious confines of a jungle hideout with an ocean view fringed by coconut palms, was their reality for a month. Their time rafting, abseiling and surfing in and around meetings, alongside requests for vacation options with a good office set-up, has inspired us to share our ideas.

Pelorus welcome this new era of digital nomads, planning trips to distant corners of the globe where we can combine a suitable base for remote working, with opportunity for thrilling experiences and adventures. If you, like so many, are no longer tied to working from an office day in and day out, then our pick of dreamy private properties and superyachts could be the perfect new office for you.

‘Adventure companies are seeing stays lengthen by around 30 per cent, with more of us than ever taking, say, a month to do what Jimmy Carroll, co-founder of Pelorus, terms a “deep dive” into one country.’ – The Daily Telegraph

Prolonged time away from ‘the office’ has normalised the idea of working remotely and we are welcoming the escalating trend of blending vacation with work commitments, happily replacing the everyday noise of office chatter and clutter, for the sound of the jungle, lapping waves or carving ice.

Work from anywhere onboard one of our yachts. Designed with space to work comfortably, an ever-changing porthole view and yachting capabilities to reach the usually inaccessible parts of our oceans, no day will be the same. We think this is the ultimate change from the repetitive nature of ‘working from home’.

Working from home has become a megatrend and with telecommunications advancing, this trend is only growing. Balance work and play in whichever extreme climate you chose to base yourself, be it polar or tropical, yacht or land. Here is our hotlist of destinations perfectly suited to working away from home.

Pelorus Team Working Globally

The Pelorus HQ is in London and our new US office is in Texas, but there are usually several team members working from other locations around the world. Our Travel Designer Emma has recently been based in Spain and was able to enjoy the perfect balance of work and new experiences around that.

“I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to work from Alicante, Spain. This made my working day very exciting and different from my usual routine, my new working routine allowed me to make the most of the country I was in and helped with my creativity.”

Emma Higgins
Travel Designer

“In the mornings I was able to head down to the sea for a refreshing dip in the ocean, reconnecting me with nature before my working day commenced. During the day I had the comfort of working from a tranquil villa, this allowed me to work in complete solitude while taking in my surroundings.

Working abroad made me appreciate how important maximising my evenings and weekends were to my productivity. Being able to head out in the evening for a gourmet meal and immersing myself in the local culture enabled me to see things from a new perspective, making me realise how important it is for my clients to do the same.”
