First Ascents and Descents
Begin your incredible skiing and sailing adventure on the mountains of Antarctica where you will find endless options for ski touring, including the potential for first ascents and descents as you discover uncharted territory. The diverse terrain ranges from mellow slopes to dramatic steeps, while some heavily glaciated ascents may even require crampons and an ice axe. Accompanied by your Pelorus expert, hop aboard a helicopter to reach areas far inland for heli-assisted skiing.
Through utilising our network of industry leading contacts, Pelorus will plan excursions to scientific research stations, penguin rookeries and sea lion colonies in between skiing, hiking, and climbing. There will be plenty of opportunities to go ashore on your yacht’s tender to experience more of the abundant wildlife. Of seventeen penguin species worldwide, seven are found here in Antarctica. You will get the chance to visit colonies of various species, including gentoo, adelie, and chinstrap. Your expert Pelorus guide and naturalist will escort you ashore and instruct you in how to observe these creatures in a responsible manner. Take part in a Citizen Science project that will give you the chance to follow ‘your’ penguin, even once you are back at home, as it moves around the peninsula.
