Swim With Orcas in Lofoten

The Lofoten Islands are draped across the turbulent waters of the Norwegian Sea, far above the Arctic Circle. This rare wilderness outpost offers an untrammelled landscape of majestic mountains, deep fjords, squawking seabird colonies, and long, surf-swept beaches. Here, you can hike, ski, fish, ocean raft, or scuba dive. Lofoten is also one of the world’s northernmost sites for surfing and one of the best spots in the world to encounter Orcas. An incredible ship-based safari with the unique opportunity to swim with killer whales and humpbacks in the wild Norwegian waters and witness the dancing Northern Lights

LEKNES

Arrive at Leknes airport and meet your Pelorus host and Captain who will bring you directly to the yacht. Once on board, the yacht will depart Leknes and cruise to Hamnoy. Enjoy lunch whilst cruising, overlooking the dramatic scenery along the coastline towards Hamnoy and Reine. Reine voted one of the most beautiful places on earth, is a breath-taking fishing village along the Lofoten coastline, flanked with red and white fisherman’s huts. Spend the afternoon kayaking, sailing or paddleboarding in the Reinefjorden – the stretch of fjord between Hamnoy and Reine. Tender to one of Norway’s best and most inaccessible beach – Bunes, for an alfresco dinner under the magnificent Northern Lights, surrounded by outstanding peaks and stunning landscapes.

FIRST SIGHTINGS

Onboard your vessel, this pioneering expedition will see you searching for Norway’s whales in a way that few others have done before. Stay out in the water for days on end far from human interruption on a purpose-built expedition vessel. With a team of experts on hand you will be on the trail of pods of orcas and humpbacks as they traverse the wild ocean. Watch pods of orcas as they hunt for huge shoals of herring far from the lights of the civilisation. As the sun sets this far north watch the northern lights dance above you in the sky and maybe even get the chance to see a humpback whale breach beneath the light of the Aurora Borealis.

There will be no set path or itineraries and you and your team of local experts will chart a course directed by the whales that you are following. Learn more about these fascinating animals from your onboard naturalists who can share with you their valuable and detailed knowledge about the patterns and life cycles of these fascinating creatures.

As you learn more about these animals and get closer to them take the opportunity to swim in their company. Slip on a dry suit and take to the frigid Arctic waters, gently gliding alongside these majestic creatures. While in the water you will be accompanied by an expert marine photographer who will capture every unbelievable moment. These stunning close encounters will be immortalised in so you can relive them in years to come. This is not an expedition for the faint-hearted and for those willing to explore the unknown without fear and without a schedule for some truly thrilling wild encounters, it is an experience like no other.
